RUSH FOR CAR TESTS.
Position at Palmerston North. Palmerston N., March 12. Palmerston North and district motorists are answering the demand to have their cars tested by garages licensed by the Transport Department well, but it is fairly certain that all cars will not have been tested within the time limit fixed. There are seven garages in Palmerston North already with the necessary licence. The majority of cars do not comply with the regulations, some in a minor regard only. For instance, the headlights on all cars which were on the road before the announcement of the new regulations require adjustment. Some of the older cars will need a good deal spent on them to bring them up to the mark.
Garages are working at full pressure and the services of further A grade mechanics are urgently sought. Despite the fact that the ears are coming. in in good numbers, a last-minute rush making completion of the testing of all cars by the required date is expected. In Palmerston North and within a radius of 10 miles there are over 5000 motor-vehicles, all of which will require testing.
