Efforts for the furtherance of Interest in horticulture in the Domin o", including educational work, were considered by the New Z aland Institute of Horticulture at Its annual conference to-day. Work of a national character formed the basis of most of the d scussions
The conference pledged its support tor the establishment of a national school of horticulture at Christchurch and decided to urge the Government to consider the incid nee of local body taxation as affecting botanic gardens, parks and recreation areas owned by local bodies and used for t lie P "poses. with-a view to air lev luting the burden of such taxation. It was decided to direct the GoVernn ent’s attention to increasing des predations by deer, cattle and other aniinals on lsland and to the urgency of more active measur s of extermination. Mr F. S. Pope was elected the new president.
