Religious Faith in U.S.S.R.
Masses of Russian citizens arc professing fresh interest in religion, despite Government discouragement authoritative sources reported recently on the basis of indications shown during the first days of the national census.
“Do you believe in God?” is one of the questions census takers ask each citizen in the gigantic canvass of the Soviet Union. Although returns.' are official secrets, many Government officials were rejported surprised at the religious trend shown. Some- expressed belief that many persons are taking advantage of the new Constitution, which provides for complete freedom in religious worship. The census, employing more than 1,000,000 field workers, v.'as being rushed in preparation for a preliminary tabulation.
