ABDICATION SPEECH
American Reaction To Recent Crisis. At Honolulu during the period of the ex-King’s abdication /broadcast, not a single’ telephone call was put through the telephone exchange. This information was given by Mr Cohn W. Anderson, managing director of Civic Theatre, Ltd., who returned to Auckland on Friday in the Monterey after a two monthsf business and health trip to California, states the “New Zealand Herald.” When, the speech was finished, gramophone re cords of the speech were quickly on sale in the shops, there being an amazing rush for them. Mr Anderson arrived at Vancouver on Christmas Day, and conversation was general about the abdication. Throughout North America there appeared, to be disappointment that the British Gov eminent had not been able to see a v-'a.y of keeping Edward VIH. on Cue Throne. Discussing the film industry Mr Anderson said the crisis in the British industry was greatly concern ing several of the companies in America. In America there was a feeling that the action in the British films was not rapid enough, and that the lighting could not compare with that attained at Hollywood.
