VERY PLEASED.
Prime Minister Satisfied with Tour.
Gratification with recep'.ions accorded to the Hon H. T. Armstrong and himself during their tour of the South Island was expressed by the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) on hi: return to Christchurch. Mr Savage Was especially pleaded to find that everywhere he went, p ople he met agreed with his decision to represent New Zealand at the and the Imperial Conference. All sections of the community, he said, were unanimous that he should be there, and voiced goodwill and satisfaction that he should be representing them. “This tour has convinced me that I will be speaking for New Zealand athe Imperial Conference and not just for the Cabinet and the Government, eaid Mr Savage. “I have spent 30 years in the political field in Ne-W Zealand, and have never seen anything- like the receptions given to Mr Armstrong and myself at evt-ry place we visited. I is difficult, in fact, to find language to describe the warmth and genuine cordiality with which we met. Young and old were apparently anxious tc meet us, even when we met ’Wet weather.’’ Mr Savage remarked that the tom was made, not to make politica 1 speeches, but to meet the people, and he was grateful for the way the people assisted him in that respect “We felt, when we met \these people, that their obvious endorse ment of our policy Would strengthen us in the task facing us at the Im perial Conference, for it showed that the people were behind us,” said Mr Savage. “Whatever feeling- existed against us—and there wirs some slight feeling'—seems to have dis appeared, and I feel, after this tour that there is l a degree of confidence in what has happened equal to anything in New Zealand’s history.”
