JUDGE OF LANGUAGE
Mr. Semple’s Comment On Bankers. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, To-day. Commenting upon the Hon. R. Semple’s reply to a protest by the president, Mr. V. C. S. Edwards, of the Bank Officers’ Guild, against the Minister’s language used towards the banking profession during his southern tour, the following statement was issued by the guild yesterday: “The New Zealand Bank Officers’ Guild has no desire to enter into a newspaper controversy with the Minister. It realises that such a controversy will lead nowhere. The facts are that the guild took exception to the reported statement regarding ing bankers made by Mr. Semple at Cromwell Gorge, and it uttered its protest against what it considered whsi inijempe/rate language. Tutr. Semple claims that he is the best judge as to what language he should use that is worthy of himself as 1 Minister of the Crown. We do not admit that he is the best judge and it is incontestable that he is l not the only judge as to what is right and becoming in his Ministerial atterance.”
