BRITISH LOAN PROPOSAL
IMPERIAL SHIPPING.
DOMINIONS SILENT.
Lack of Reply Creates Bad Impression.
press Association—Copyright, Received 11.15 a.m. London, February 26. The Australian Associated Press has been informed that no Dominion has replied to the British Government’s proposals arising out of the Imperial Shipping Committee’s report, ■whereby it is understood Britain is ready to guarantee a loan with the Dominions’ co-operation for the building of a new liner for the SydneyVancouver service, reconstructing the Aorangi and Niagara, building a new liner for the Vancouver-Tokio service, and reconstructing existing vessels. The Dominions desired a British loan to build two new liners for the Sydney-Vancouver service, but Britain regards one new liner sufficient, at least until experience has been gained with the reorganised service. The fact that some weeks have elapsed since the proposals reached the Dominions has created the impression here that the Dominions are disappointed.
