BEFORE THE COURT.
Charges Concerning Motorcar Skill Test. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, Last Night. The trial of ft. F. Pobar, Bertram Egley and H. N. Marshall on five charges of false pretences in the conduct of a competition with a motorcar as the prize was continued to-day when the last of the 27 witnesses for the prosecution were heard. After the Crown’s case had closed, Pobar, conducting his own defence, said he did not intend to give evidence. Counsel, outlining the case for Bigley, said Egley had known that the seals of the prize car were broken because National Motors failed to provide a .demonstration car but he was assured that a new car would be provided as a prize. He sold tickets in the South Island, while Pobar sold them in the North Island. In a period of five of six weeks he paid £lOO into the overdraft account but on learning that Pobar had paid nothing into the account he refuted to sell more tickets and took no further part in the business except as a go-between for Marshall and Pobar. Egley was in the witness-box when the court adjourned until to-morrow.
