“It is one of the most important steps the Labour Party has taken since the war,” says the News Chronicle commenting on yesterday's decision of the Labour Party’s national executive to go to the country at the next election with a short reconstruction programme to be carried out in the lifetime- of one parliament—five years. A drafting committee has already been appointed to preparethe new programme, which will be submitted to the party and to the public at an early date. “The decision is bound profoundly to the influence of the future development of the party's policy,” adds the News Chronicle. “It means that the appeal to thleelectors is 'henceforth to be made on a series of general Socialism and nationalisation which 'hitherto has been the party platform,”
