MAN COMPLAINS ABOUT QUERY TO WOMEN
An alleged remark about women & garters during a danee at a Bomar Catholic hall was the subject of one of the objections made to Middlesex County Licensing Committee, England against the renewal of a dance License Rev. William Gordon applied for » renewal of the music and dancing li cense of St. Janie’s Hall, Radnor road Twickenham.
Mr J. Stephenson, on behalf of some residents, objected to the unrestricted granting of the license. He said the main ground of complaint was noise. On one occasion Mr Bray, a resident heard an announcement through * microphone which could not be offensive in the light and movement of a dance hall but which might be more likely t< disgust than amuse a man trying to gel some sleep. Mr Bray explained that the M.C. wa> asking if any woman had pink gaiters or if any woman had blue garters. He was asking the women what type ot garters they wore. The committee renewed the license fox three months —subject to certain restrictions as to time and noise. The assistant priest of Bt. James Rev. C. B. Flood, told the Daily Sketch: 4 ‘l believe the actual remark was, ‘Will all ladies with olue garters take part in this dance?’
“ I am not excusing it, but it was made, I understand, by a would-be funny young man and I am sure that no harm was meant.”
