OPERA’S MIGHTY ATOM AND MUSICIAN Has Lily Pons, petite coloratura soprano, been secretly married? New York was asking the question following a report that she had wed Andre Kostalanetz, the musicion. Madame Pons (French, aged 30, called “Mighty Atom of Operatic Stage”) made her name at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. She caused a sensation by singing Lucia di Lammermoor a whole tone higher than usual. After her first marriage had been dissolved there were several reports ot budding romances, but last year she declared that she had 4 ‘ said farewell to Love.” In July last, however, her engagement to Mr Kostalanetz was officially announced. He said the wedding would take place during the winter. Recently she talked of retiring within the next five years to a small farm in Connecticut.
