Gendarme* killed two and wounded three when they fired a volley into a group of miner* and women demonstrating In support of a stay-in sty-ike at the Funfkirchen mine. Official* declare tlhat the gendarme* fired In self-protection when they weiie attacked by the miner** wive* who said they had no money or food. Striker* numbering 400 remain below, where they ignore the underground telephone. It I* thought that the pump* are out of action and the working* are slowly flooding. There I* also a risk of firedamp explosion. The miner** lamp* are exhausted and th* pit ponies are not being fed.
