RADIO BEACONS

Elaborate Plan Expected In Australia. Press Association—Copyright. Received 12.15 p.m. Brisbane, To-day. The Federal Minister of Defence, Sir Archdale Parkhill, is expected to approve of a plan providing for the installation of six radio beacons as soon as he receives a report on the subject. The Minister states that the cost will be about £40,000 and the beacons will be installed at Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Holbrook, Melbourne, and Hobart.

The type under consideration is the Lorenz ultra high-frequency short wave, operating over a radius of 100 miles. Aviation authorities consider this plan to provide a system of air navigation will equal anything in the world.
