English Soldiers Versus Italian Sailors. Press Association—Copyright. Received 10.40 a.m. Shanghai, February 23. Four men from the ranks of the North Lancashire Regiment were injured in a dance hall fight with Italian ratings from the cruiser Lepanto, whose personnel were concerned in a cinema incident on February 20. The combatants used lead piping, weighted clubs, chairs and bottles. The dispute involved 40 on each side. Military police separated them, but a number of Italians were injured. (The incident in which the Italian sailors were concerned occurred at a cinema in Shanghai, where a Soviet film depicting incidents in the Abyssinian war was being shown. Ten Italians fired revolvers and raided the projecting rom. They broke the apparatus and thrashed two Russian operators, who were sent to prison.
