Baron von Neurath is reported' to have proposed a Four-Power Defensive Pact among Austria; Germany, Italy and Hungary, conditional on Austria undertaking not to restore the Hapsburgs. yvhich would mean a lasting check on Nazi aspirations. Official quarters declare the story a pure invention. An atmosphere of extreme uneasiness has been created as a result of yesterday’s Nazi demonstrations Which annoyed the Chancellor, Schuschnigg, while the mass arrest of Nazis has angered Germany.
