AIR SERVICE.

Auckland Should Become Big

Station.

Press Association—Copyright. Auckland, Last Night. The calling of a conference of Mayors and chairmen of metropolitan local bodies to discuss questions connected with the hold-up in negotiations for the proposed Pacific air service is advocated by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. In a statement issued on behalf of the council of the chamber, the president, Mr A. A. Ross, said: “We have the opportunity of becoming an important station on one of the world’s main air routes, but if negotiations are bungled we may find ourselves relegated to a dead-end on a branch line. “We really ought to w*ake up, and we would suggest that the question is important enough for the Mayor to call an immediate conference of mayors and chairmen in the metropolitan area, together with representatives of other bodies, and endeavour to influence the Govermment so that without further delay the matter tnay be brought to a successful conclusion.” *
