READER’S COMPLAINT.
Disgusted with Last Night’s Public Meeting. (To the Editor). Sir,—After reading your leading irticle in last night’s issue, I thought t my duty a.s a citizen of this town Lo attend tije meeting called by the Mayor to discuss the organisation of free milk supplies to school children and the consideration of the formation of a branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society. On entering the room I was amazed to find the Mayor, tv,*o reporters and 13 citizens. Judging by the prepar ations made, something like 50 citi zens were expected. It seems to me that the reason why such a small number attended must be due either to the lack of interest Of the people of the district, or to the lack of assistance which such so ciety"s get from the Borough Coun cil when once they are formed.
cannot believe that Stratford people care so little about the welfare of the children. Therefore, I must believe the alternative—that what wouid seem to be apathy on the part of our is really apathy on the part of the Council. Social organisations in Stratford get very little help from the Council and become disheartened. I think that was Vhy there war. such a small attendance last night.—Yours, etc.. DISGUSTED.
