IRISH ACTION.
Catholics Awaiting Lead Re Spain.
Press Association —Copyright Dublin, February 19.
Mr Patrick Balton, leader of the Irish Christion Front, -Supporting an amendment in the Dail against the passage of the second reading of a Non-Intervintion Bill until the Government had broken off diplomatic relations with the Caballero Government, declared that more than 20,000,000 Catholics in the British Empire were awaiting a lead from the Irish Free State. If Mr de Valera had given that lead in his Spanish policy the Free State would have had the united support of the Empire’s Catholics in the event of a crisis occurring within the Empire. Mr de Valera, in reply, explained that the Free State had a minister accrelited to the Caballero Government in order to safeguard the interests of Irish nationals.
The Bill passed the second reading by 56 votes to 39.
