TEMPERANCE UNION.
Women Hold Conference At l Hawera. The W.C.T.U. Conference was held in Hawera. yesterday. The conference conimenced at 10.30 with a devotional service conducted by Mrs Perryman, of Wellington .following which a welcome was extended to the visitors by Mrs. Douglas, president of the Hawera Union. The subject of the address given by Mrs Perryman was on education of youth and work amongst the Maoris in the interests of temperance. Mrs Drew, president, presided and there was a splendid attendance of delegates from all branch unions. The work being done by all branches was reported, followed by discussion on the reports. The afternoon session was opened by devotions led by Mrs Jenkins, of Eltham, and after introductory remarks by Miss Drew and the usual election of district officers, Mrs Per-

She appealed to I members to increase their activities 1 in the interest of the work. ■ Impromptu speeches were given ■ upon suitable subjects. Every union j represented took part.
