Secrecy Regarding Public Tenders. Press Association—Copyright. Auckland, Last Night. The secrecy at present observed by several Government Departments in relation to the successful price in public tenders was criticised by the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day. Mr. J. A. C. Allum pointed out that though for a. time the Public Works Department had given publicly the tender prices, latterly they had been withheld. He thought that unsuccess ful tenderers should know the successful price, and that it would have the result of. lowering, prices if the tenderers knew the standard against 'Vhich they had to compete. The Railways Department and the Post and Telegraph also maintained secrecy regarding successful tenders. An anomaly existed in the fact that local bodies, had not only to announce the figures, but. had actually , to open the tenders in public. It was decided to approach the Associated Chambers in regard to the matter.
