Wellington, To-day. ■ A Fisheries Investigation Commit--1 tee is to be set up by the Govern- ; ment inquire into and report upon conditions in the industry. The decision follows previous announcements by the Government that the fishing industry was one which required a greater measure of coordination than existed among the individual units. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said yesterday, “The committee will comprise Mr J. Thorn, M.P. (Government, Thames), Mr E. Speed, Department of Industries, and Mr M. W. Young, Marine Department. The committee will conduct its investigations at the main ports and other centres and evidence will be taken from all interests having a direct bearing upon the welfare and development of the industry. 1 “When the findings and recommendations of this committee are presented, the Government will be in a position to take steps under the Industrial Efficiency Act to bring the units of the industry up to a degree of efficiency and service which will go a long way towards establishing the industry as one of the most important in the Dominion.”
