STRATFORD SWIMMERS

Successes At Hawera Carnival.

Considering that they have had no means of getting practice in Stratford this season, the performance of the Stratford swimmers at the Ohawe Surf Club’s swimming carnival at Ha-’ wera last night was exceptional. In the final of the 50 yards boys’ handicap Stratford took all the places' R. White being first R. Hedditch second, and L. Wickham third. Miss D. Nowell was second in the corresponding girls’ event. F. Wickham and A. Robson were second in heats of the men's 50 yards, which were won by K. Foster (Australia) and W. Scott (Australia). A, Pettigrew, with 43 seconds, and F. Wickham, with 58 seconds, defeated the Australians, Hart, and Carrier, in heats of the 220 yards men’s handicap, and Carrier had his work cut out to win the final, with Wickham second and Pettigrew third. Miss L. Wickham was third in the women's dive and 100 yards breaststroke race, and Miss D. Nowell, off scratch, was second in the 50 yards women’s handicap.
