BAND CONTEST.
Woolston Wins First Test In A Grade. Press Association-—Copyright. Nelson, Last Night. The placing of the bands in the first A grade selection to-night was: Wooltton 1, Wangahui Garison 2, Timaru Municipal 3,‘ St. Kilda Municipal 4, Queen Alexandria’s Own 5, Palmerston North Garrison 6, Nelson Garrison 7.
“As each session goes you bands improve,” said the judge, Mr. Kerry, after hearing the seven bands in the A grade test selection. “When I heard the hymn section I was beginning to wish 1 had not come to New Zealand, but there has been good playing to-night.” His big criticism, said Mr. Kerry, was the thin cornet playing, which he could not tolerate. M/any corniats gave the imprtess.lon that they had just begun the cornet a fortnight before the contest. He was particularly impressed by t\no trombone players and one sopra.no cornet.
