BAND CONTEST

Weather Becoming Warmer At Nelson. Press Association—Copyright. Nelson, To-day. Nelson is thronged to-day with visitors for the official welcome and garden party this afternoon to bands taking part in the New Zealand contest. Nineteen bands will compete in the marching competition through the streets on the Way to the official ceremony. The weather continues fine and warmer conditions to-day are favouring the outside fixtures.

The judging of the Euphonium, B Flat, and amateur cornet solos are proceeding. The large number of entries are carrying the morning competitions Well on into the afternoon The A Grade first test, “I Masna deiri,” will be held ty-night. Two large solo classes were judged this morning. The judge, Mr Kerry, said that, he could claim to know the set Euphonium piece, at he was a pupil of the composer and he played it twice a week for six years. He criticised the playing of the Cadenza, and said the thing was lacking in the introduction and theme v-hich required warmth of. tone and colour.

The result was as follows: V. Wil Hams, Wanganui Garrison, pn : JT Cotton, Nelson Garrison, Si; Smith, Port Nicholson Silver Band, 82.
