More People at Resort During January.

An increase in the number of visitors to the Stratford Mountain resort during last month as compared with January, 1936, was reported at the monthly meeting of the East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board last night. December revenue showed a decline, but in January there wat a substantial increase. Present were: Messrs T. R. Anderson (chairman). C. R. Finnerty, W. L. Kennedy, Percy Thomson, Brian McMillan, J. C. Allen, J. B. Richards, and G. A. Carter (secretary). In spite of very changeable weather during the first half of the month, more people visited the resort than during January of last year, stated the report of the caretaker, Mr J. Carryeir. A patch of blackberry growing in one corner cf the 28-acre se» tion of the reserve, along the Barclay Road, was sprayed with sodium chlorate. This was not wholly suecetsful, as some of It was not killed, and in burning there was a danger of damaging trees, among which the blackberry was growing. It would therefore have to be cut. Several rough places on the road above the house were blinded with scoria and some on the lower road with strippings from fhe pit. One load of wood was carried to the houte.

A statement of revenue submitted by the secretary showed that tor the month of December revenue was £2l 4s 6d, as compared with £26 12s 6rt for December, 1935. Park fees were £9 17t-, car tolls £9 12s 6d, and sundry receipts £1 15s.

January revenue amounted to £55 6s 6d. as compared with £46 4s for January, 1936. Park fe-s were £26 14s, car tolls £25 2s fid. ami sundry receipt!-' £3 10s.
