DANGEROUS DRIVING.

Fines Imposed On Speeding Motorists. E. G. Cuff, Rowan, charged on the injformation of ttyo Main Highways Inspector (Mr A. E. Ansell) with driving in a dangerous manner near Egmont Village, was fined £2 (cogls s l2s) in the Stratford Court to-day. In a letter to the Court defendant pleaded guilty. He stated that he was foliov'ing a string of cars and pulled out to pass them. The way was clear when he started to pass, but a car must .have come out of a side road after he had paEsed the first car and he had to pull in behind one of the cars. He was never in danger of hitting any car. He had a clear vision of the road ahead, as he could see the front car of a string of five or six cars. If he had seen the other ear coming he would not have- attempted to pass. Two passengers w*ere in the car With him and both told him to pass as the way was clear. He drove a car only about once in three months and was always careful. He was in a hurry to get to New Plymouth and so endeavoured to pass.

Inspector Ansell said Cuff had tried to pass him and v<‘as travelling at 30 miles an hour.

Though the speed was not very high, the manoeuvre was a very dangerous one and frequently led to accidents, Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., commented.

Will Not Happen Again,

For a similar offence near Waipukii, Vivian Rowe,. Inglewood, was fined £2 (costs 12s). Stating that he was unable to attend the Court, Route wrote pleading guilty to the charge. He said it was his first offence and would endeavour to make it die last. He admitted that it was a very foolish thing to'do. For failing to keep to the left, W. E. Vostey was fined £1 (costs 12»).
