MODEL FLYING.

Local Enthusiasts Form New Club.

Model aeroplane builders and enthusiasts met yesterday to form officially tire Stratford Model Flying Club. A very keen spirit shown among those present to put this intensely interesting and instructive activity on an organised basis in this district. Mr W. G. Read, hon. secretary and treasurer of the Southern Districts (N-I.) Model Aeroplane Association, who was present in an advisory capacity, explained that the sport in New Zealand Was governed by a national bady, the N.Z.M.A.A., many of whose duties were now entrusted to the District Associations in each of The three territories into which New Zealand is divided. Stratford is in the Southern Districts (N. 1. area, whft'h encompasses all the territory south of a line from Waitara to Napier. It v-'at mentioned that It was the duty of association officials to help form clubs, establish them firmly, and give practical help to the 15 clubs now operating in this sector. At the inaugural meeting of the local branch, the following officers were elected for the forthcoming season:—Secretary and treasurer, Ron. K. Brown (Cordelia Street); club captain, Bernard Cook; hon. recording officer, D. Power; hon. timekeeper, W. M. M. Casey. The joint presi : dcncy and chairmanship was left open temporarily, pending acceptance by a suitable person. A discussion then took place on the chib’s activities for the future, particularly in connection with outdoor and indoor flying, club-room and social gatherings, and visits to outside clubs. All interested in aviation, whether it be full-size or model, are earnestly advised to link up With this live bouy now that this opportunity is given of gaining such valuable knowledge and experience.
