I iquiry Into Death of Mr. A. Thorne. The inquiry into the death of Mr. Albert Thorne, aged 57 years, manag-i er of the Stratford branch of Messrs Few ton King, Ltd., v.‘ho suffered fatal injuries in a motor accident on the Tokirima Hill on Friday evening, was opened at New Plymouth yesterday, before Mr. W. 11. Woolward, coroner, but was adjourned sine die, in the absence of the only passenger in the car, Mr. Truby King, who is still suffer:ng from the effects of the accident. Evidence of identification was giv- I it by Constable A. J. Mills, New Ply- | mouth, v'ho Etated that he had known , Mr. Thorne for the last 11 years. Dr. W. E. Fisher, medical practitioner, Taumarunui, and medical superintendent of the Taumarunui hospital, gave evidence concerning the; extent of the injuries and an opiiflon I as to the cause of He considered death resulted from a rupture j of the spinal cord with later involvement of the vital centres above by the inflammation which followed in such cases. Senior-Sergeant E. T. C. Turner advised that Mr. Truby King, who was regarded as a material witness, would not be able to attend court for about a fortnight.
