BETTY NUTHALL.

Engaged To Prominent Golfer. The engagement of Miss Betty Nuthall, the lawn tennis player, to Mr David Alexander Barclay, was announced at a New Year's? Eve party at Miss Nuthall’s home, Richmond Hill, Richmond, recently, state s an exchange. Mr Barclay, who is 34, is secretary of British Cellophane, Ltd., Tottenham Court Road, W. He is a fine golfer, and a member of the Fulwell Golf Club committee. Mist Nuthall, who is 25, won the British Junior Singles and Doubles Championships in 1924-25-26. At the age of 16 she defeated Mrs Mallory, the United State?. champion, at Wimbledon. At the age of 18 she v'as ranked No. 4 in the world ranking list.

In 1930 she won the singles and doubles championship? of America at Forest Hills. In the following year she won the doubles and mixed doubles championship of France and America. With F. J. Perry she won rhe French mixed doubles championship in 1932. She was the British hard courts champion in 1927. In 1934 she won the doubles championship with Miss James at San Francisco. She represented Britain in the Wightman Cup on several occasions. It is understood that the wedding will take place in about six months time.
