Probably a world’s record in the breeding of hippopotami in captiwity has been achieved during the past ten years by the Auckland Zoo, where the sixth baby of Chucka and Bella was born to-day. Preparations for tbfs event were made some days ago, precautions being taken tp Separate the father and the mother as the fiflrst bally was crushed and killed when the weighty father rolled on it. Two of the foftner offspring were successfully reared and the authorities hope the new arrival will thrive, as it should be worth about £5OO when it grows older.
