The first Australian diplomatic representative in a foreign country is Mr. Keith Officer, formerly a member of tjhe Australian External Affairs staff in London, and who will now be attached to the staff of the British Embassy at Washington with the rank of Australian Counsellor. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. J. A. Lyons, in making this announcement, said that the decision to adopt this form of representation had been made after consultation with, the British Government. The system would be similar to that employed for the last 12 years, to maintain direct contact between the Commonwealth Government and the British Foreign Office.
