CAR-TESTING.
All Vehicles Must Be Passed By March 31. I I Press Association—Copyright Christchurch] Last Night. Motorists are required by legislation passed during the last session of Parliament to have their vehicles tested and passed as fit for the road before March 31. The Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to-night he was determined that would be tested before be- j ing allowed to continue on the road. | He had thought the selection of March 31 as the last day would give sufflcient time for testing but he did not now intend to adhere rigidly to that date, the Minister said. The Transport Department was extremely busy with tests' and in reasonable cases an extension of time would be allowed. “It is most significant,” Mr Semple added, “that the majority of vehicles l the department has tested so far have been found unfit for the road and requiring adjustments. The Minister said the law provided for a maximum charge of 5s for the testing of cars and if there was any suggestion of price cutting steps would be taken to eliminate it.
