BUTTER AND CHEESE
London Markets Dull. London, February 7. The London butter market remains in a nervous condition. There is a definite lack of any speculation elasticity in the Empire butter market section. This is in sharp contrast with the firmness of Continental buttars. Even inferior Polish is realising per cewt. The disparity between the prices of Empire and Continental butters seems most absurd, but supplies of Continental are on the short side. The British market for Empire cheese is also featureless. It is stated that if certain importers were allowed a free hand the comparative shortage of New Zealand cheese is such that some slight speculative buying would lift the market by several shillings per cwt. Without such speculation, it is averred, easier prices are possible in the near future.
