Household Hints.
Do not let macaroni boil for more than 20 minutes. Some kinds become sufficiently tender in 10 or 15 minutes. * * * Do not put pepper into anything to be fried, as its pretence causes the rissoles or fritters to break. * * * Turpentine whitens clothes. Add it to the hot washing water in the proportion of a dessertspoonful to two gallons of water. * * * Add a few slices of raw potato to soup If too much salt has been used. Cook a little longer, and the defect will be remedied. * * * To prevent cheese from becoming mouldy, wrap it in a piece of thin musiin wrung out in. vinegar. As the cloth dries, moisten it again. * * * After beating a carpet, rub it with a cloth wrung out in hot water, to which has been added two or three tablespoons of methylated spirits and a small piece of soap. This brings up the colours beautifully aud does not injure the carpet.
