STRATFORD B DEFEATED
Hawera High School Hold Advantage. Outplaying Stratford in the first innings of the senior B cricket match at Victoria Park on Saturday, 'by 63 runs to 47, Hawera Technical High School successfully withstood a strong second innings bid and per medium of stone walling tactics played out time to win the match comfortably. Hawera bowlers, Graham and Bernard quickly dismissed the Stratford batsmen in the first innings of the day, the highest scores being those of Tocker and Aldridge, who made 10 each. Hawera's early batsmen appeared formidable, Bernard reaching 25 and Knightbridge 20. The Stratford bowler, Collins, who was brought on late, however, was in great form and made short work of the later men, taking five wickets for nine runs. Stallard and Pollard who broke up the opening partnership, took two for eight and three for 18, respectively. The Stratford opening batsmen, Tocker, who played an undefeated innings of 25, and the fourth and fifth men, Faulkner (22) and Collins (27) gave Stratford a chance on the second strike. The innings was declared with five wickets for 78 runs, but the visitors, adopting stone walling were able to play out time. The innings closed with seven wickets down for 25. Of this total only 12 were made by the batsmen, the highest score being Peacock’s six, not out. Of the 15 overs sent down by the Stratford trundlers, 11 were maidens. Collins took five wickets for eight runs’ and Pollard two wickets for one run.
