Renewed Confidence In Store Sheep Section.

The main feaure of the week’s trading, says the weekly report ot Messrs-. Newton King. Ltd., has been the renewed burst of confidence* in 'the store sheep section. Stores are enjoying free competition and values for small to medium sorts have enjoyed a slight improvement on late rales while rape sorts haVe been subject to keen competition with a slight appreciation being displayed for average sorts'. Some idea ot the strength of the ewe market can be gauged from the Uruti Sheep Fair where 4,000 sheep came forward. The entry included I some first-class age-marked ewes and | amid spirited competition, a full clearance was' effected at good prices. The top price for 4-year olds as 36/9, while 189 4-tooth ewes sold at £2/0/6, 223 6-tooth ewes at 38/6, 65 24;00th ewes at £2/1/4, 64 at £2/0/11. Store Cattle. Thin sectitojn is Vsl'f’emely active for This' time of the year and buying keenness is well displayed. At. Inglewood, weaner Friesian steers sold at £3/10/0 to £4/1/0 and heifers at from £3/3/0 to £.3/13/0. In the beef section, a firm range of values continues, prime cattle being fairly scarce. Best cows and heifers of the Poled Angus and Hereford breed sell at from £7/15/0 to £B/5/0, while bullocks range from i £ll to £l2/10/0. Fat Sheep. Value.S’ for fat sheep are firm. Works schedule is now about 27/- and most sales are recorded at from 28/to 29/- for wethers. Ewes are worth about £1 to £l/1/0. At Kohuratahi. free competition reigned and prices were good. At Awakino, values' were a little easier but the demand elsewhere was good. At OJrau, the demand for ewes weakened, but the lamlb entry realised firm prices.

The demand for weaner pigs has eased somewhat, strong enquiry continues for good store classes. Average weight porkers made at New Plymouth to 37/-, smaller sorts 31/6, stores 25/- to 28/-, slips 18/- to 22/, good weaners 13/-.
