THREAT TO RESIGN.
Town Board Member Opposes Bowling. A threat to retign was made by a member of the Manurewa Town Board, Mr H. R. Maxwell, at a meeting of the board on Monday. After lively exchanges Mr Maxwell left the room. A special meeting had been called to confer with tfie management committee of the Manurewa Bowling Club on the question of assistance in maintaining, the green which it leases from the board. Mr G. Gallagher, on behalf of the club, said it found difficulty in carrying on under its* 'present terms. He asked the board to grant some relief, possibly in the form of a reduction in rental. After some heated exchanges, the deputation decided to retire and leave the board to consider its request for assistance. On the motion of Mr Ferguson it was decided to remit £l5 of the rental for this year, the matter to be reviewed next year. “I ain opposed to the principle of giving the ratepayers’ money to provide cheap sport for the bowlers,” said Mr Maxwell. “I am willing to assist the bowlers, but not at the expense of the ratepayers.
