AUSTRALIAN MEN’S DRESS

Criticism Raises “Hubbub”

In Sydney.

Viscountess Dillon has been creating a bit of a hubbub in the papers because the has been criticising the way the men dress in Australia. But the careless men go on dressing as aeual’ (says a writer in the Sydney “Morning Herald”). The observant Viscountess attended various parties in Sydney and Melbourne, and, whilst she found the women beautifully dretsed, the man 4 ner in which the men dressed shocked her. “Why cannot they wear a blue suit and white collar, instead of grey trousers and coats of a different colour, with pink and green shirts’*’ she asks. There is undoubtedly room for improvement. The male Australian is inclined to be careless in matters of dress. In formal parties he can be formal enough, but in general he is rather slapdash. In England and America, and on the Continent, the business man dresses' much more smartly, believing that, whether clothes make the man or not, they help to make the business.
