TENNIS.

(By “Ground Shot.”)

In the Petrie Shield competition last Saturday both A and B Methodist teams “brought home the ashes.” The A team by defeating Stratford B by 11 sets to five sets and the B by the very narrow margin of three eames over Midhirst. The B team deserved their win considering the number of the regular team who were absent. It was noticeable that in both women's and men’s singles confidence was lacking, it “being in the doubles that the B team pulled themselves together. Laddc r games are in full swing and some interesting games have been played. Results to hand are: A. Vivian lost to R. Butcher 6—9 after a very good game, both players driving powerfully and well. D. White lost to F. Shackleton - 9- Shackleton is showing marked improvement on his earlier game and promises to give some of the ''higherups” a shake. Miss O. Aagaard lost to Miss B. Leonard 2—7 and to Miss Cottier 6 7 - Both Miss Leonard and Miss Cottier are playing good vigorous tennis and are climbing steadily. * ■Y* % Miss B. Leonard lost to Miss M. Gatton 3—7. Miss Gatton played well in the double events last Saturday and seems to have overcome her habit of taking her eye off the ball.
