ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

STRATFORD BRIGADE. Greater Realisation Of Value Needed. The need for more public interest in what it- one of the most valuable volunteer orgarfrsationu in Stratford, the local section, of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, was pointed out to the “Central Press” by a member of the brigade, this morning. The organisation, he considered, suffered through the fact that there was an insufficient realisation of the work the Brigade was capable of doing and its great value to the community. St. John Ambulance service was in all cases rendered free and apart from the work carried out at different sports grounds, race meetings, shows, etc., officers could be called on for any medical aid. that was required or where necessary for removing patients to hospitals. Citizens’ Commititee. A strong citizens’ committee which could form an ambulance responsible for running classes, etc. would be able to strengthen greatly the organisation at Stratford by Thabling the training of a much larger number of recruits. It is hoped soon to form a separate division at Stratford. To do this it Is necessary to have 16 men willing to perform l duties when called, on. At present there is only about half this number available, but it is hoped to work up to the required strength in the near future. Uniforms. The work has now been under way in Stratford for four years but it has not yet been possible to provide uniforms for the officers. When this is done, the authority of a uniformed man is much more reaUily recognised than that of a man in mufti (other than a known doctor).
