TESTING AERODROME.
Provision by the Victorian State Government of a testing aerodrome, and not a general airport, at F 4 sher« men’s Bend, is the condition sought by Commonwealth Aircraft Proprietary, Limited, before it will consider establishing its ’plane manufacturing factory in Victoria. The establishment of the factory is regarded as far too urgent to wait on discussions about the formation of the full airport. This is made clear in an official statement issued by Mr F. M. Mitchell, secretary of Broken Hill Proprietary Limited, on behalf of the company. “It Is essentia] that the factory site selected shall be on freehold land at a reasonable cost, and be adjacent to a suitable landing ground or aerodrome, and have ready access to water,” Mr Mitchell said. “These facilities are available at two or three other suitable sites elsewhere, but they do not at present, exist in Victoria. “The matter certainly cannot wait until a decision regarding the establishment of a general -airport is arrived c.t.”
