NEW PLYMOUTH RACES

Review Of Thursday’s Fields By “Odds On.’ The Taranaki Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opens on Thursday. The splendid card of acceptors should provide full fields for patrons to exercise their ability at picking the winners. Assistance is offered in the following commentary by “Odds On.’’ The figures before the accepted horses indicate the placings of each horse in the last three starts since November 28, as follows:—1 for first, 2 for second, 3 for third and 0 far unplaced. If a horse has not start/ed a dot represents that fact.. WAITARA HURDLES. One mile and a-half and 100 yards.

The Waitara Hurdles opens the day 'and the only winner carded, Court Arma, may be public choice and should lead the others home. Don Erma ran a fair third at Stratford and with Royal Routine improving on each effort, appeal as possible place getters. Bazaine has been tried several times for one fair performance. Benedictine returns after a two year absence prior to which he recorded two second placings. Those securing places may be COURT ARMA. DON ERMA. ROYAL ROUTINE. NGAMOTU JUVENILE. Five furlongs.

Places at the post may be a governing factor in the Ngamotu Juvenile Handicap run over five furlongs. Orate has the hardest part to give weight to the four next carded. Cardsharper is good whilst Wild Flower and Greenwich hold still better records than the first two. Wild Flower strongly appeals,, Greenwich has been reported off colour recently, otherwise they would appeal equally. Great Hope reads well but has fallen from grace lately. Seaham ran satisfactorily at Wellington whilst Fairy Dale at New Plymouth, and Gay Step at Stratford, were in places. 'The last five have been showing promising track work for some months and a surprise may emanate therefrom. Those securing places may be

WILD FLOWER. CARDSHARPER. GREENWICH. • * • FLYING HANDICAP. Six furlongs.

A very interesting field appears in the Flying Handicap, six furlongs. Oratory mixes distances effectively but may find the weight a steadier. Wotan will be a draw card for both visitor's and investors, but nevertheless, possesses no outstanding performances over this distance. Refresher is honest and will surely be well supported but more appeal comes from The Tiger, who has now been in long enough, and races well when fresh. Lone Raider must be taken on trust but a repetition of Levin form would secure a place. Notium appears to be producing his previous form and a generous effort would win this. Ned Cuttle if produced here should secure a place. Supreme Court may not succeed here —but be alert. Saluting the judge may be THE TIGER. ORATORY. 1 NOTIUM.

MOTUROA ELECTRIC HACK. Fiye furlongs. . . Colleen Gain 8 5

The Moturoa Electric Hack Handicap is another five furlong flutter where the places at the post ma 7 assist. Kentucky Song, King Koroki and Glen th awn appear likely ones, whilst Captain Tudor and Eagles Eye are sure of strong support.. The latter stopped badly at Ashhurst an 1 must improve on that performance before deserving support. Ohanga, Roscrana and Gay Step are likely ones, whilst the remainder y ill offer long prices. In a very open evert possibles are KING KOROKI. KENTUCKY SONG. ROSCRANA. TARANAKI CUP. One mile ami three furlongs.

The Taranaki Cup contested over one mile and three furlongs now comprises a handy field of 10 and should supply a splendid race. Dungarven and Haut Monde have been withdrawn. Spiral at top form and Hazoor both strongly appeal. One Whetu down to 8.6 is ready to exten 1 that proven horse Martara (if produced), who may be one chiefly in demand. Taitoru has continued winning, promises to stay, and may command a strong following. Consequent upon recent placings and his preference for local racing, Tahurangi with Broughton aboard, deserves fair support. Chief Ranger with a second and first scored over one mile at Wellington, although unproven at 11 furlongs is not changeless. Tout le Monde is about due again and should complete the journey ahead of thelast five others carded. Aussie Ra and Windscreen have no recent form. Places may be filled by (allowing for one scratching) * MARTARA. ONE WHETU. SPIRAL. HAZOOR. OKATO HACK. Nine furlongs.

has proven good but must produce his best effort to hold off Maestro. Corowa (Goulsbro) and International also promise to secure a win over the four-day circuit. Red Sand broke his run of placings and will win again shortly. Student Prince and Convivial also possess chances whilst Earl Colossus, Bonny Glow and Nightlass are not chanceless. Placed horses may be MAESTRO. LE GRAND. COROWA. TARANAKI PLATE. Seven furlongs.

The Taranaki Plate, seven furlongs, should suit Ned Cuttie (if reserved) and High Test (Clifford). Bantry appears in good fetfie now and Mustang although not winning, is r: ad/ for one now. Cappy is also performing satisfactorily. The Bigot is good, but being one eyed is always unsure. Imposture after a year’s lapse of form won well at Wanganui and claims attention. International, Mazzini and Cheval de Volee possess chances. Those securing places may be NED CUTTLE. HIGH TEST. MUSTANG. TIMARU HACK. Six furlongs.

*—lncluding -re-handicap. The Timaru Hack Handicap, run over six furlongs, may find Export and Calshot sorted out as Rustem ma/y find the distance too short. Sansfoy will keep them moving whilst Ringside may fill a place. Te Broney at last annexed a maiden and may yet make good. Autumn Leaf should hold the remaining three safely. First past the post may be EXPORT. CALSHOT. RINGSIDE.
