GRASS FIRES.
: Brigade Called To Suppress Outbreak. i With autumn browning the country- ; side and drying grass in the seed stage, incipient fires, are becoming frequent alongside the railway lines, having been started by sparks emitted from the - engines. To-day there were three grass fires in Stratford, in Lear Street, in Juliet Street South, and in Celia Street. The Juliet Street outbreak threatened an adjoining property, and the firebel) was rung by some of -the youngsters who had gathered round. Superintendent E. Brocklebank and brigade smen were quickly on the scene and quenched Hie fire. At the Lear Street outbreak a resident who had cut the grass for hay got nothing for his trouble, as flames quickly burnt up the material.
