CRICKET.
(By “Late Cut.”) iAt Kaponga on Saturday the Stratford A team had a comfortable win in a one innings match. Both teams showed the effects of the long break from competition play and the game was rather dull as a result. * * * A feature of Stratford's innings was a bright 61 not out by Beere, who continues to display good form with the bat. When set Beere is a very difficult proposition for any bowler and makes his runs in attractive style. * * * A welcome re-appearance fojStratford was that of Stan. Lay, who contributed a solid 15 in addition to taking three wickets at small cost. Lay’s bowling will be an acquisition to the attack, especially as Kivell is not able to play regularly. * * * Without Hall the Stratford team continues 7 to make a tidy score in each of its matches and should prove hard to beat in future games. * * * The captain is fortunate in having a string of bow’lers in Lay, McKenzie, Adlam. Hunter and Gray, who can all take a useful turn with the ball. McKenzie, who recently displayed great form in the Graham Cup match, is still in particularly good nick and is the ideal man for breaking up partnerships which have become set against the faster bowlers. * * * George Court, the Kaponga skipper, used nine bow-lers in dislodging the six Stratford wickets, which were down when the team declared, Foster was bowling very well and it seemed that it more use had been made of him the visitors might have experienced more difficulty in scoring the runs in sufficient time to allow of getting out the Kaponga team. * * * Kaponga has a solid batting side but is very weak in its attack. Pascoe took three wickets in quick succession mainly through his unorthodox delivery but from tlien on Beere took heavy toll and be was taken off.
