A. Dickinson (Avon), as usual, has entered the post-section play, and his is the only rink from the Stratford district to survive the section play, which was concluded with the ninth round on Wednesday. Williams (Strap ford), who had to win in both the Sts and 9th rounds to have a chance, was eliminated by Douglass (West End) in a keenly-contested game. Fluctuating Fortunes. With a 14-3 lead at the ninth head, Williams was Bitting pretty, but Douglass, scoring 5 and 3 In a steady run. overhauled the Stratford man at the 16th head —16-16. With one on the last head, Douglass clinched the game. In the next round, in a game that was of little importance, Williams had a narrow win over Elliott. Fine Opening. With a line burst at the beginning, Dickinson leapt to a lead that gave Adam little hope in the eighth round, despite the fact that the loser gradually gained. In the next game, defeating Bishop 21-13, ,he entered the post-section play. Although narrowly losing his first post-section game to the West End rink, skipped by Christoffel, Dickinson Is still with the five rinks who play in the fourth round. In the second round he eliminated J. Lobb, and in the third round Andrews.

Although Dickinson favoured short heads against Lobb, he drew so well ou the long heads that he gained the advantage. Lobb lost accuracy In the latter stages of the game. At first play was even, six heads finding the score 4-4, after which Lobb gained the lead with three singles, Dickinson gradually drawing up-until only oue behind at the 13th. Dickinson came to light at the 14ih head, when Lobb, with 4 counters, had a great hope of pushing ahead to the extent of five points. The head was difficult but Dickinson, undeterred.

drew a great counter to even at 9-9. This was only a start, for he then rushed ahead by adding 10 on four heads. Lobb scored a 2 at the 19th head, and on the 20th again held four counters. That gavd him a fighting chance. As shown by his effort on the 14th head, Dickinson can rise to the occasion. He did so, and by drawing the shot led by 9 points to take thd match. •

To-day’s Bowling At New Plymouth.

The fourth round this morning saw the elimination of Dickinson’s rink, which was defeated by Spurdie, 20-15. Throughout the tournament this Avon rink has been playing impressive bowls, but appeared to be suffering from a certain tendency to. staleness after the gruelling week ut the Dominion tournament. Dickinson led in the early stages of the match with Spurdie, and at one stage had the score 14-8 in his favour. After that, however, Spurdlo caught him up. Dickinson, needing 6 on the last head, burnt It once and ditching the jack on the second head was able to score only one. Fourth round results are: — Spurdie (two lives) 20, Dickinson (one life), 15. Christoffel (one life) 20, Boulton (one life) 18. Tiplady (two lives) a bye. In the pairs competition section play, Coe, Harris, Clark, Amess and Williams have four wins and one loss and Rudkin has four wins and two losses.
