SIR HALLEY STEWART

Death Of Prominent English Philanthropist. Press Association—Copyright. Received noon. London, January 27. The death is announced of Sir Halley Stewart, chairman of the Halley Stewart Trust Fund for Research towards the Christian Ideal in Social Life. ’ He was one of the 14 children of a Congregational minister whose stipend was only £2 a week. When in his teens, he threw over a bank clerkship and entered business. He is known to have given away several fortunes to charity and estabt lished his Trust to give poor youths a university education.
