OIL LIFE.

Tn announcing that its cars for next year will be equipped with oil and motor cleaners, an American concern states* that purchasers will be advised that oil need never be changed, except for the summer and winter seasonal variations, if a new cartridge is installed in the cleaner when the dipstick shows that the oil is dirty. The development of oil conditioners which can be built into the engine system or applied afterwards makes possible the use of oil for thousands of miles bevond the previously-recommended period of 1000 to 2000 miles. Filtering materials have been developed which take out abrasives, water, sludge, acids, and discolouring elements such as coloidal carbon sp thoroughly that the oil looks as good as new, and, it is stated, is actually in its original state so far as lubricating is concerned. This improvement is of special importance to operators of fleets of taxicabs, trucks, and buses.
