FARM LABOUR.
Farmers’ Union Replies To Union. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, To-day. A reply to the offer by the New Zealand Federation of Local Bodies' Employees, Builders, Contractors and General Workers to try to assist the farming community ip- securing farm labour has been received from the assistant secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mr. O. G. Thomas, acting for the secretary, Mr A. P. O’Shea.
The federation wrote to the Farmers’ Union last week asking for particulars where farm -workers were needed and expressed a desire to assist, in meeting shortage where it was found to exist. ■
In answer to the federation, Mr. Thomas said he had- communicated with Mr. O’Shea, Who-was At present on leave, and' he had advised that It would not be of much use, as the federation had suggested, to collect information centrally about the shortage of workers. As an alternative Mr. O’Shea recommended the federation to request its afllliated unions to get into touch with the provincial secretaries of the Farmers’ Union in districts where the federation had branches.
