“Thank Heaven, Britain is still Mistress of the Seas,” declared Paul Reynaud in a Chamlber of Deputies debate on national defence. He added that France’s handicap, through Germany’s superiority in population, could be counteracted only by a fouryear’s military service law. There is
no ground for anxiety but no time should be wasted.
