NAVAL DOCKYARD DISMISSALS

COMMONS MOTION.

ADMIRALTY'S CASE.

Fact Was That Men Could Not Be Trusted.

Press Association —Copyright. (Received Noon.) London, January 26. In the House of Commons, Sir Samuel Hoare, First Lord of t'hte Admiralty, in reply to the Labour censure mot|ion .on the question of dockyard dismissals, said that there .had been a perils of (incidents fyi the naval (dockyards during the past two years, forcing: the Admiralty to redouble its precautions. The nuts and so on (which were found ,in the machinery of the cruiser Leander must have been inserted' deliberately. Needless were found driven into the electric cable on the 'Cumberland. That showed that the damagle was clearly premeditated malicious.

Inquiries Ited to the conclusion that there were men in the dockyard service whose (actions and associations forced (the Government to distrust the loyalty (and to believe that the dockyards were unsafe as long a s they were employed. Cabinet had (approved of the action taken and there was !no question of mere political views and no desire to interfere with personal

opinions. The fact was that these men could not be trusted.- The Government would 'have liked tp have put the matters to flhe men concerned and give them an opportunity of replying, but the information was -necessarily secret and was obtained from sources that could not be disclosed.
